Big Garden Birdwatch

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is an annual citizen science project that helps the RSPB get an idea of the species of birds in the UK and how they are doing. We have just submitted our results! This year we saw two great tits. two blue tits, two magpies, one coal tit and one robin. Unfortunately, didn't see any dunnocks even though we used to see them a lot. They seem to have disappeared from the garden. How do you take part in the big garden birdwatch? You don't actually need a garden to do it, you can do it anywhere. Even a heavily urbanised environment. All that matters is that you are looking at birds, having fun and posting your results correctly. Evolution

 I haven't uploaded in a while, so I want this post to be a long one. I thought it would be interesting to talk about evolution. I personally believe in the theory of evolution. If you don't, that's fine. What is evolution? Evolution is a theory often attributed to Charles Darwin, although some other people had similar ideas around the time. How I think of evolution: there was a pig with a big mouth, the food was big so having the big mouth would help the pig eat the food and therefore help the pig live longer. This means more pigs with big mouths will bread and pass on the genes for a big mouth to their child. And then so on and so on util the pigs have unbelievably large mouths. The theory of evolution applies to all living creatures.  This might not be true, but I remember hearing it in a documentary, that a branch of physics called quantum physics sometimes plays a part in evolution. RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2026

 The Big Garden Birdwatch is organised by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). We have cleaned and refilled our birdfeeders ands tomorrow we will spend one hour looking at the birds. We will post our results here on Idris' Animal Research.

Birds of prey and roadkill

 Birds of Prey and Roadkill Roadkill is a sad and tragic thing that happens, but sometimes it helps wildlife such as  birds of prey.    One of the main ones are Red Kites Milvus milvus . Milvus milvus is the scientific name.  Where to find Red Kites? They can be found in many European countries, including the countries listed below: UK Spain Ukraine Portugal Sweden. Their diet consists of carrion, worms and sometimes small mammals.  This page is called birds of prey and Red Kites, not just Red Kites and roadkill. So here are some more birds of prey that beat roadkill: Buzzards Kestrel Side note: I love birds, especially birds or prey and I think people normally underrate the UK for wildlife because it doesn't have animals like lions and tigers and elephants but there's one thing the UK does have, awesome birds of prey like the Peregrine Falcon, the fastest animal in the world (if you think the fastest animal is a Cheetah, do more research please).
